What is the Program (Bears Building Bridges)?
The program is a Mentoring program where students work with elementary students at OREC both individually and in a classroom supporting all students.
Who can join the Program (Bears Building Bridges)?
The program is open to students in Grade 11 and 12 who have an off class and would like to volunteer. Some O2 students may also be permitted to join the program as part of earning COOP hours.
Where does the Program (Bears Building Bridges) take place?
The program happens here at OREC. It will have a focus on supporting the P-6 grade levels.
When does the Program (Bears Building Bridges) happen?
The program takes place during the school day. It would happen with the school schedule of the student during off classes. There may also be opportunities to be involved in some noon hour or after-school activities.
Why join the Program (Bears Building Bridges)?
It’s a small commitment that makes a big difference. Become a volunteer to a student or class in our OREC school environment. You’ll help build children’s self-esteem and school performance while having a lot of fun. And it only takes one hour a week during one of your off classes. You will also get great volunteer experience to help build your resume.
How do I join the Program (Bears Building Bridges)?
In early September, the program coordinator, Mr. Starratt, will be handing out applications for the student in Gr 11 and 12 who have an off class and are interested in joining the program. There will be training provided for the successful applicants. The goal will be to start working with students and classes in late September/early October.
