OREC ART EXHIBITION 2015
Over 140 artworks were selected for this year's show (we just didn't have any space for more). Over 800 votes were cast for work in 10 categories. A big thank you to all our art students, and for your votes.
Thank you for supporting our art program at OREC. The OREC EXHIBITION was a great success, with large numbers of parents and students in attendance; it really shows the academic commitment and creativity of our students. We have found that our students are inspired by the artwork of their peers, and this is why we have the annual exhibition and display work permanently in classrooms and around the school. To this end, we would appreciate your support of our practice of selecting work for exhibition and then displaying it until our students graduate. This sharing of good work is critical to raising standards of art practice.
Some parents have asked how they might help to enrich their child’s artistic development. This can be done in many ways:
1) Providing your child with a quiet area to practice their art, and some simple materials.
2) Lots of encouragement!
3) Visits to art galleries such as the Owen’s Gallery at Mount Allison University (free admission) or the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Halifax) or any of the many commercial galleries you can find around Nova Scotia. There are excellent online galleries too; for example, the Google Art Project allows you to make virtual tours of the great art museums of the world.
4) Follow my blog at NOVA ARTWORKS. Starting in September, I will be making regular posts with suggestions for enrichment.
Thank you for your support of art at OREC.
